2/170 Nos 43-47 (odd) Pimms Row

- II Row of 6 cottages, now 3. Mid C18, altered. Red brick in Flemish bond, plain tile roof. 2 storeys, 6 bays. Cottages formerly one bay each set in handed pairs with doors to outside. Segmental header-brick arches to openings, the doorways with modern frames and board doors, the windows with C20 6-pane, 2 light casements and projecting wooden sills. Norwich Union fire insurance plaque below eaves between bays 3 and 4. stepped dentilled eaves. Roof hipped at left end and with ridge stacks between bays I and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6. Rear: added single storey, gabled kitchen wings. Interior of No 43: some older timbers reused as beams; timber framed partition wall between front and rear rooms in right-hand bay has square panels and long straight brace; queen-post roof truss. Reference is made in an indenture of 1909 to a late C16 indenture concerning this property, but from the architectural evidence,although earlier materials are incorporated, the row as it now exists was built in the C18. It is thought to have been built for a local brick works.
