2/268 Orchard Cottage

II

House. 1860 in Foxwarren style possibly built by Charles Buxton or Frederick Barnes. Red and blue diaper pattern brickwork with terracotta mouldings and steep pitched, plain-tiled roofs. T-shaped plan. Two storeys with gable lit attics and massive corbelled stack to centre with tile-on-edge "broaches" to shafts, further stack to right. Two gabled bays to centre, left one projecting with band of diagonal brick- work over ground floor. Arched lights to casement fenestration in terracotta moulded surrounds. One pointed window under hood mould in each gable apex, one 3- light window on first floor below. One 3-light ground floor casement under label moulding to each gable with pointed arched Y tracery window to ground floor left of left gable and pointed arched door to ground floor right of right gable. Further gabled bay to right end, lower with one 2-light and one pointed window on the ground floor. One window range set back to left end with diagonal brick eaves and 3-light casement under label mouldings.
