3/51 Valley Farmhouse -

GV II

House, formerly farmhouse. C16 in 2 stages with further C17 additon. 2 storeys. Cross-passage entrance plan. Timber-framed and plastered, the right-hand gable is jettied at 1st floor. Plaintiled roof with internal chimney of red brick; carved C19 bargeboards with spike finial. Late C19 sash windows. Early C20 battened and boarded entrance door. The early C16 core at right-hand end has substantial framing and evidence for unglazed windows with sliding shutters. In mid or late C16, a 2-cell extension of wider span was added to left; good exposed framing to hall and service rooms, plain crown- post roof and evidence for a cross-passage. The chimney was also inserted and a staircase wing added to rear; in the hall is a wide fireplace with cambered lintel. A further parlour cell was added to left in C17, with fireplace within rear chimney.
