GRUNDISBURGH STONEY ROAD TM 25 SW (West side) 2/93 Poplar Farmhouse II House, formerly farmhouse. Late C16. Timber framed with colourwashed render and a plain tile roof, originally thatched. Two storeys. Baffle- entry plan. Garden front: gabled wing at left of centre of 2 storeys with lateral casement windows to the ground and first floors and a central gabled chimneystack. To left of this, at ground floor level is a C20 flat- roofed addition with French windows. Above this a 2-light first floor C20 casement with a blocked earlier window at right of it. The right-hand flank of the projecting wing has 2 cross windows to the ground floor and a 3-light C19 window to the first floor. To right of this wing, on the recessed axial range, is a 1/2-glazed C20 door, at right of which is a 2- light casement and to left of which is a 4-light C20 casement at far right and a 3-light C19 casement to far left and, between these two, a 3-light C16 window with moulded mullions. Massive axial ridge stack at left of centre with moulded base. Further 2-flue stack to the right hand gable end. Left hand side: single-storey C20 wing at right behind which is the projecting C18 wing. To the ground floor of the gable end are 3 two-light casement windows and to the first floor are a 2-light and single-light casement and to the attic a 4-light C16 casement with diamond-section mullions. To left of this is a C19 outshut of 1 1/2 storeys with a stable door at right and 2 casements at left and a 3-light casement to the attic. Rear (entrance front): the projecting wing of l 1/2 storeys at right with a hipped roof which has a single-light and a 2-light C20 casement to the ground floor and a 3-light casement at first floor level. Attached to the left hand side of this is a lean-to and this has to its left hand flank the front door. The axial range behind this has two 2-light C20 windows to ground floor and to the first floor at right two 2-light casements, a 3- light and a single-light casement and at left a C16 four-light casement with diamond-shaped mullions.

Interior: The ground floor hall has close-studded walling, wall posts with stepped run-out stops and tapering jowels which have dog-tooth decoration to the top, themselves supported on small consoles. The ceiling beams and wall-plate are chamfered with run-out stops. Two doorways to service rooms, one of which is now blocked, one still open. The dividing wall between the rooms has now been demolished and the gabled end wall demolished and the room extended. To an internal passageway is a canted ground-floor oriel window, formerly to the exterior, which has 5 lights to the front and single lights to the angles. Double-cavetto mouldings and birdbeak to the underbelly, moulded sill and cavetto and moulded mullions with quirked beads. Close studded walling to the first floor blocked windows with diamond-section and cavetto-moulded mullions. Jowled wall posts. Roof of 6 bays with collars, arched wind braces, and clasped purlins.
