GREAT BEALINGS WOODBRIDGE ROAD TM 24 NW (South Side) 4/78 Rosery Farmhouse G.V. II House, formerly farmhouse. C16. Timber framed with colourwashed render and C19 brick skin with a plain tiled roof, originally thatched. Two storeys. Ground floor hall plan of 6 bays with chimney stack, possibly of a later date. Yard front: brick skin of C19 Flemish bond brick with debased Tudor ornaments. Porch at right with brick piers at either side, gable with chamfered timbers and mace finial to its apex. To right of this is a 2-light casement with Tudor hoodmould with label-stops and to left are two similar 2-light windows, between which is a single-light casement. To the first floor are four 2-light casements with hood moulds and label stops. Hipped roof with gablets. Axial chimney stack at left of 3 flues rebuilt in C19 brick. The right hand end is rebuilt in Flemish bond C19 brick and has a central chimney stack with offsets. The left hand end has an outshut at far left, running along the rear which has a 2-light casement. and at right of this is a doorway with hood mould and two 2- light windows, also with hood moulds. To the first floor at centre is a further, similar 2-light casement with a C20 single-light window to its left. Rear: masked by C19 lean-to outshut.

Interior: the ground floor hall has chamfered and jowled wall posts supporting massive chamfered and end-stopped ceiling beams with joists. Close studded walling. C16 or early C17 chimney stack with massive bressumer which has a chamfered lower edge and cambered top. Similar ceiling to the room beyond the stack. The third ground floor room was originally divided into two service rooms, as mortice holes in an axial ceiling beam show, each having a door through from the hall, the right hand one now being blocked. Close studded walling and one blocked window. To the first floor are jowled wall posts, blocked windows with diamond-section mullions and cambered tie beams to the dividing walls. Within the roof space are chamfered crown posts with arch braces that connect longitudinally to the collar purlin, collars and common rafters all having long, uncut pegs and no soot blackening. The wall plate at first floor level has edge-halved scarf joints with square, vertical butts which appear to be of the same date as the building.
