GV II

House. Early C16. One-and-a-half storeys; basic 3-cell plan. Timber-framed and rendered with thatched roof. 3 C20 3-light casement windows with a single bar to ground storey; 3 gabled dormers with 2-light single-bar casement windows. C20 plank door. An internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft, and 2 end chimney-stacks. Framing exposed inside: some replacement studding, housings for diamond-mullions; in the main 2-bay room a plain, heavy ceiling with joists set flat, and some indications in the upper room of alterations: a tie-beam and brace removed. The ceiling may be a later insertion. In the partition wall to the south, the remains of an arched doorway, blocked, and indications of another doorway. In the one-bay room at the south end, the joists are thin and set on edge, either as a replacement or a later insertion. All the ceilings are very low. At the north end, an C18 bay was added obscuring the original gable end, but the upper part of the gable is visible inside with the remains of C17 roughcast and pargetting: 3 panels with a 'tree of life' motif, and part of a roundel.
