5/29 Denham Priory -
- II
House former hall and parlour of mid C16, extended c.1980. 2 storeys, attics, lobby entrance plan. Timber-named, rendered; close-studding exposed at upper level ; jettied upper floor with fascia-bressummer carved with leaf-ornament. Thatched roof with dormers and C16 chimney; C20 diagonally-set square flues, rebuilt to match late Cl6 work. The left-hand section 1½ storeys high, completely rebuilt c.1980 on site of timber-framed range. C20 casements; small 4-light C16 roll-moulded mullioned window at first floor. Lobby-entrance doorway has roll-moulded jambs, chamfered 4-centred head with leaf-carved spandrels; oak plank door. Hall and parlour with good framing; chamfered main members and joists; the parlour doorway roll-moulded with arched head and leaf- carved spandrels. Open fireplaces with cambered timber lintels; 2 chambers above have similar fireplaces. Later inserted attics. Evidence for pre-C16 building originally attached to west end on site of C20 building.
