Details

HERRINGFLEET BLOCKA ROAD TM 49 NE 1/15 Blocka Hall 27.11.54 GV II Farmhouse. Early C17 with mid C19 rear wing. Red brick, with some knapped flint to the basement and one gable end. Plaintiled roof (modern tiles at the rear). 2 storeys with attics and a dairy/scullery basement floor. 3-cell form with lobby entry. C20 large-paned casement windows with brick hoodmoulds. The doorway is set high (over the basement) and is approached by a C20 flight of brick steps. The moulded doorframe and fine plank door are both original and are notable survivals. Wide flat hood. Internal stack, the upper part rebuilt C19. Parapet gables; against the left gable is a later external stack and a lean-to addition. Gothick rear wing: heavy 3-light casement windows with 4-centre arched heads and estate-style leaded glass; gabled entrance porch with matching open wooden archway. The left bay of this front is the gable end of the C17 range: matching hoodmoulds over all windows. Ovolo-moulded bridging beams to parlour and the chamber above. In the attic is a C17 brick fireplace with moulded lintol. The original rear door of the house survives but is not in position.
