FLIXTON BY BUNGAY TM 38 NW 2/1 Dovecot at Flixton Hall (formerly listed as Pigeon 1.9.53 Cote, Flixton Hall)

Dovecot to the former Flixton Hall. Early C17. Red brick and plaintiles. Circular, with a conical roof; the brick is laid in English Bond, and the roof surmounted by an octagonal wooden cupola with semi-circular arched openings and concave roof. 3 square window openings at different levels, with chamfered surrounds to the brickwork: one has an original leaded-paned casement window. A small original doorway, set high with chamfered surround and plank door. Inside, 23 tiers of small, square nesting boxes are set into the walls. A central post, with a circular platform on top about 15 feet from the ground, has a ladder joined to it. The ladder has a single central shaft to which rungs are attached, and rotates with the post so that the nesting- boxes can be reached.
