Details

ILKETSHALL ST. ANDREW GREAT COMMON TM 38 NE 2/11 Great Common Farmhouse - - II Farmhouse. Late C16, with later alterations and additions. 2 storeys to main range, I½ storeys to the extension along its rear. The main range is timber- framed and rendered with an original red brick gable end, incorporating a chimney-stack, on the north, and a later red brick gable and chimney-stack on the south; the mid-C19 extension along the rear is in red brick; pantiled roofs. The front has a range of 3 early C19 casement windows and a central 6- panelled door with a triangular pediment, broken entablature and large shaped supporting brackets. The basic layout was of a 2-cell end-chimney house. Only some large chamfered main beams are visible; most of the house is Victorianised inside, but the frame appears to be complete. At the time of survey only the C19 extension was fully occupied and the rest of the building becoming derelict.
