- II
Former farmhouse. Late C16 and early C19. 2 storeys; L-shaped plan. Timber- framed and rendered. C16 rear range with C20 concrete plaintiles. An internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft. Various 3-light and 2- light casement windows: some C20 replacements, some old, with pintle hinges and the remains of square leaded panes. This range, formerly 3-cell, and now 2-cell, represents the original farmhouse, which had an internal chimney and cross-entry form. Plain framing and ceilings exposed inside; arched braces to the end walls; assembly marks on many components; roof with clasped side purlins and principals, cut away for insertion of purlins, but not diminished (cf. west end of Carmel, Rumburgh Street,Item 2/14). The early C19 front range replaces the service area of the older house: red brick; black glazed pantiled roof with wide eaves overhang. 2 end chimney-stacks. 3 small-paned sash windows in deep reveals to upper floor, and 2 to ground floor with a central doorway. 4-panelled door with rectangular fanlight, panelled linings, plain pilasters, and architrave supported on moulded console brackets. A straight flight of stairs with turned balusters and plain handrail inside.
