4/29 Reydon Grange (formerly listed as - Grange Farmhouse) 27/11/54 - II
Farmhouse. A single main range in 2 phases: C16 to right, early C17 to left; various small rear additions, one with a datestone inscribed 'E' over 'WL' with the date 1731. Timber framed, mainly plastered, with a colourwashed brick Dutch gable end to the later section. Pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 4 windows, C18 2-light and 3-light mullion and transom casements with small panes. Asymmetrical doorway with half-glazed door, slender tapering pilasters, reeded frieze and modillion cornice. 2 shallow-gabled dormers with scalloped bargeboards. Internal stack. The Dutch gable end has blocked windows at 3 levels, a first floor brick band and an integral stack. The later section has a fireplace with a carved and moulded lintol; to each side of the fireplace and in the reveals is a plasterwork frieze based on a Fleur- de-lys in a square panel: this has mostly been renewed but some of the original remains (cf. Wheelers Pony Stud, Peasenhall). Some exposed framing and joists: the floorbeams in the later part have elaborate stop chamfers, and one on the ground floor is moulded. In a late C18 rear addition is a room with good original pine panelling.
