WALSHAM LE WILLOWS
FINNINGHAM ROAD
Fernside

II

House, set sideways-on to street. C16, probably with later alterations.
Timber-framed and rendered with clay pantiles. 2 storeys. An internal
chimney-stack with a plain rebuilt red brick shaft; lobby entrance. To the
left of the entry, the upper floor has 2 old 2-light casement windows with a
single horizontal bar to lights; 2 similar paired windows on the right, and 2
3-light windows in the same style to the ground floor. Similar casement
windows in the gable end, 2-light to the upper floor, 3-light to the lower.
Entrance door with 2 long panels in a single-storey enclosed and gabled porch.
Fallen plaster from the front has exposed some good studding and the sill of
an original window; all the present upper windows have tops well below the
eaves level, and suggest that the roof may have been raised. Access not
obtained, but notes of previous survey indicate a massive main beam in the
parlour with 3" chamfer, and a poor, possibly later, main beam in the hall.
