Details
WICKHAM SKEITH WICKHAM STREET TM 06 NE 2/156 Summerseat -
GV II House. Late C15/early C16 core with later C17 and possibly early C18 in-line additions at each end, forming a long 5-cell range. Renovated mid C20. Timber framed and rendered, thatched roof. 1½ storeys. Various casement windows, mostly of C20, with diamond-leaded glass. 4 gabled 2-light dormers. C20 one-storey addition set forward to right has side doorway with plank door. Internal stack and external stack to right gable end, both with sawtooth- capped C19 shafts. Full-length pantiled brick lean-to at rear. Interior. Centre section, part of which was probable open hall, has substantial full- height studding and remains of 2 diamond-mullioned windows, both apparently passing through upper floor level. Floor joists set flat, those in the hall chamfered. C17 additions have square or on-edge oak joists and regular primary-braced studding. There is evidence to suggest the present stack is an C18 rebuild, the previous stack probably only heating the hall. Roof timbers mostly concealed.
