MONK SOHAM SCHOOL ROAD TM 26 NW 2/160 Primrose Farmhouse - - II

Farmhouse. C16. Timber framed and plastered, thatched roof. 3-cell form. 2 storeys and attic. Upper floor has a range of 4 late C19 2-light casement windows. Ground floor has 2 3-light mullion and transom casements with C20 square-leaded glass and to the left a slatted opening. Plank door; C20 gabled timber trellis porch, also thatched. Internal stack with original oblong shaft. To rear of service end is a one-storey colourwashed brick addition with pantiled roof; this has a stack with brick dated 1782. Interior: Some good studding, with evidence for diamond-mullioned windows on both floors. Gable end wall in service chamber has tension braces. Hall has axial bridging beam with large chamfer and closely-spaced plain joists. Part of this room has been incorporated into the service end and the original cross-partition on the ground floor is lost. Plain ceiling joists in parlour. Over the hall chamber is a slightly cambered tie beam with short arched braces to the wallposts. Later attic floor in parlour cell has chamfered joists. Oak newel stair extending to first floor only. Roof not examined.
