Manor farmhouse. Late C16 core, considerably rebuilt late C17/early C18.
Timber framed and plastered, the ground floor at the front cased in
colourwashed brick. Roof plaintiled to front and pantiled to rear. 2 storeys
and attic. 4 windows, mid C20 3-light casements without glazing bars; one
older window to right. Central doorway with C19 6-panel door, the upper 4
panels glazed. 2 gabled dormers with wide bargeboards. Heavy external stacks
with square shafts against each gable end. The stack to the left is built out
the full width of the house and is roofed at the same pitch as the main slope
but at a lower level; at the rear this section of roof is continuous with that
of a lean-to addition. Interior. Victorianised, with little of the structure
exposed on the ground floor. 4-bay frame, the right bay partitioned off on
both floors. Chamfered ground floor bridging beams, one rear wallpost with
corbelled head. Open fireplace with original lintol. On the upper floor,
much plain primary-braced studding of small section; some re-used material.
Attic floor set below wallplate level. Roof has a lower row of heavy stepped
diminished butt purlins, the upper row of purlins not visible but probably
similar. Some long straight wind-braces. The roof timbers are regular and
well-finished.
