Remains of St Peter's Church

Ruins of former parish church of Thorpe. Medieval, perhaps C12. Part of a
round tower of flint rubble, in two fragments, standing to a maximum height of
c. 12m. To the west, an incomplete ground floor window opening and a small
part of the one above. At a higher level to the north is part of a further
window. Lower walls plastered internally. Attached to the north east is
small remains of the nave, in red brick. The nave and chancel are said to
have been rebuilt in 1739 and pulled down some time after Ashfield church was
opened in 1853.
