BEDFIELD TM 26 NW 2/14 Nos. 1 & 2, Cable - Cottages

Former farmhouse, now 2 dwellings. Early C17 with probably C19 addition to left. Timber framed, with roughcast-rendered facade, the remainder plastered. Pantiled roof: concrete tiles to front slope of main range, otherwise clay tiles. 3-cell, lobby entry type. 2 storeys and attic. 3 windows, late C19 4-paned sashes. 2 mid C20 metal casement windows to ground floor. Doorway of No.2, into main range, has half-glazed 4-panel door and gabled hood on curved brackets, with decorative bargeboards and spike finial. Internal stack with rebuilt shaft; a further stack against left gable end of main range. Left hand addition has one bay of 4-paned sash windows and a doorway with 4-panel door and matching gabled hood. Interior. No.2, comprising the hall and parlour cells of the farmhouse, has exposed first floor studding with reverse- curved braces. Chamfered-joist hall ceiling. Wind-braced clasped purlin roof, the rafters concealed. Newel stairs. Interior of No.1 not examined.
