Details
WORLINGWORTH SHOP STREET TM 26 NW 5/124 Mill Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. In 2 phases: C15 to right; stack and parlour cell added late C16, with slightly higher eaves. Restored and extended to rear c.1976. Timber framed and roughcast-rendered. Roof of mid C20 clay pantiles. 2 storeys and attics. A long 3-cell range. C18 casement windows without, glazing bars. To left is a C19 gabled porch with 4 panel door; within the porch is an older door with 6 raised and fielded panels. To right is a gabled porch of 1976, the door now replaced by a window. Internal stack, the lower half of the C19 shaft cement-rendered. Lean-to addition on left gable end. Modernised interior with most of the structure concealed. In the earlier section, close to the stack, is a cambered tie beam with evidence for long arched braces, now removed; until mid C20 this carried a crown-post. Part of another tie beam is also visible. The roof over this range is said to have been almost entirely renewed. Parlour chamber has chamfered-joist ceiling; above is a side-purlin roof. Newel stairs.
