GV II
House, C15 with late C16 alterations. One storey and attics. A 3-cell open hall house. Timber-framed and plastered. Pantiled roof, once thatched. An axial chimney of C16/C17 red brick, and another at right hand gable. C19/C20 casements. Stable-type entrance door of late C20 in rear single-storey extension. Interior: A small open hall house with several original features: a pair of service room doorways with chamfered 4-centred arched heads (part only remaining) and evidence for a 2-centred arched front doorway. Quite modest studwork and smoke-blackened coupled-rafter roof (open truss removed apart from storey-posts). Rough 1st floor joists over service rooms to left. Evidence for 6-light diamond mullioned windows in the hall. In late C16 a lintelled open fireplace was inserted backing against the cross-entry, and an upper floor inserted into the open hall with good chamfered joists. The parlour cell was reconstructed with similar joists and with a lintelled fireplace in the gable: this end was remodelled in C18.
