Details
HORHAM THE STREET TM 27 SW 5/56 Church View II House. In 2 sections: main part to left (furthest from road) is C15 or early C16; adjacent section c.1700 and later, probably in 2 stages. Timber framed and roughcast-rendered under a thatched roof, half-hipped to the left. 2 storeys to left, 1 1/2 storeys to right. Scattered fenestration: small-paned casements, mainly of C19. One raking dormer. Mid C20 semi-glazed door. Each section has an internal stack. The road gable end has a further entrance with a wooden trellis porch. The older part is in 3 irregular bays; the narrower centre bay, now occupied by the stack, was once a smoke bay and the timbers here are sooted. Intact irregular studding with reverse-curved braces; no middle rail. Roof structure mostly concealed but probably intact. C17 inserted floor has chamfered bridging beam supported by horizontal timbers inserted between 2 adjacent studs; the joists are chamfered and set flat.
