Details
DRINKSTONE GEDDING ROAD TL 96 SE 1/10 Barn, 40m north-west of - Rookery Farmhouse GV II Barn, late C16 or early C17 and in two stages: a 3-bay barn at the east end with an aisle on the north side, and a higher 5-bay extension, unaisled. Timber-framed and weatherboarded. The lower section has a glazed pantiled roof, the higher section has asbestos sheeting; both were formerly thatched. Boarded barn doors at centre bay of north wall. The east section has depleted framing, but retains storey posts, wall-plates and most of the clasped-purlin roof. One open truss employs reversed assembly, suggesting an early alteration. Good complete framing in higher section: close-studding with tension stud-bracing and middle-rail. One open truss has arch-bracing, the others have C19 bolted knees. Windbraced clasped purlin roof. Nearly all studs and many rafters are reused from a medieval building. The east section was in the process of conversion to a dwelling at date of survey.
