Oak Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C16, in 4 phases. Timber framed with exposed studding, much of it
closely-spaced. Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. A single unusually
long range. Various windows with moulded mullions, some original and others
of mid C20 in matching style; some casement windows, mainly of mid C20.
Gabled brick porch and 4-panelled door of C20 date. One gabled dormer.
Internal stack and an external stack against the front wall. To the left is
an overhanging gable supported on original carved brackets. The interior has
much fine exposed timbering. In the parlour addition at the left end the
bridging beam is supported on wineglass-pattern corbels carved on the storey
posts. The chamber above has fine studding and an applied crenellated
cornice. 2 of the other first floor rooms have cross-beamed ceilings, one
with C16 and C17 oak panelling. In the cross-passage of the earliest section
is a doorway with carved spandrels. At the right hand end is a one-bay
addition with a queen-post roof and diamond-mullioned windows, latterly used
as a dairy.
