MENDHAM FOXES LANE TM 28 SE 2/61 2 cottages 400m north west - of Gray's Farmhouse -- II

Farmhouse, latterly used as 2 cottages. In 2 sections of differing heights: late medieval or C16 to left, parlour addition of c.1600 to right. Timber framed, mainly plastered, with a pantiled roof. 2 storeys with an attic to the right hand section. Various old casement windows; one window in the right gable has diamond-leaded panes. Boarded entrance door. Gable stack (rebuilt in white brick) to earlier range at the junction of the 2 sections. The main part is intact although the frame is papered over: exposed joisting, original newel stairs (2 flights) and floorboards. The earlier section has been reduced in length; a floor was inserted in early C17 and the range was raised about O.8m. and re-roofed in C18.
