FRESSINGFIELD TM 27 NE 6/6 - Moat Farmhouse -- II

Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 with mid-late C17 rear addition. C19 alterations. Timber framed, encased in C19 red brick with white brick quoining. Roof of glazed black pantiles. 3-cell, lobby entrance type. 3 windows, C19 large-pane casements under segmental arches. C19 gabled porch (contemporary with facade) with scalloped bargeboards, a C19 4-panel entrance door and plain rectangular fanlight. Internal stack, the shaft rebuilt in early C20. Much of the frame is exposed internally. The hall has an ovolo- moulded bridging beam and matching cornice. Arched brick fireplace in hall chamber. One of the service rooms has an ovolo-moulded doorway, probably the original outside doorway re-used. Original newel stairs (both flights) and several old doors. Remains of medieval moat.
