- II
House, late C16 with alterations of late C18 and C19. Originally of 2-cell end-chimney plan, extended to left in C18. One storey and attics. Timber- framed, encased in C19 red brick at front, plastered at rear. Pantiled roof, once thatched. A C16 end chimney of narrow red bricks to right, the middle section plastered; an internal C19 chimney to left. Raking dormers with small-pane casements. A mid C19 small-paned sash, and another with large panes; C20 casements. Mid C19 4-panelled door, the upper panels glazed; an open gabled porch on posts. Typical unmoulded framing: well chamfered joists laid flat, exposed in the hall and cross-entry. Open fireplace with cambered lintel. Wind-braced clasped-purlin roof; the chamber over the hall originally continued over the service cell; instead of a tie beam betweem them is a heavy collar tying a pair of principal rafters.
