Folly Tower about 300m south south east of Yaxley Hall

Gazebo in the form of a small church tower. Said to have had 1852 datestone,
probably built for P.R. Welch of Yaxley Hall (q.v.). Flint and red brick
rubble with stone dressings. A square on plan with diagonal buttresses at
angles. Once 2 storeys and taller. To front an entrance with a reused C15
stone arch, pointed with inner chamfer, outer Tudor Rose ornament, roll
moulded bell capitals to responds, jambs are early ovolo moulded red brick,
string course to upper level which is set back slightly and had pointed arched
windows. 4 stage full height buttresses with stone offsets. To rear an
external stair led to upper storey. Formerly had an embattled parapet.
Interior cement rendered with pointed arched niches.
