GISLINGHAM WALSHAM ROAD (NORTH SIDE) TM 07 SE 2/65 Orchard Cottage - - II
Shown on OS Map as Back Street. House. Mid C16, stack inserted C17, reduced in size and altered C19 and C20. Timber frame, plastered. Steeply pitched machine tiled roof. 4 bays: storeyed hall with upper smoke bay to left, service and parlour ends removed. 2 storeys and attic. C20 lattice leaded 2 and 3-light casements and double doors, C20 stained glass in left or smoke bay into which a C17 axial ridge stack was inserted, 3 conjoined hexagonal shafts. Left gable end has C20 stained glass in former first floor fireplace. Right gable end has 2 lattice lights on ground floor with 4 centred arched heads of original service doorways, exposed C19 purlins. To rear right a 1 storey and attic C19 backhouse with an external end stack, C20 flat roofed addition to far right. To rear left an entrance in a C20 glazed gabled porch, above a fixed 6-light metal window. Interior: frame partially altered and concealed, close studding, ground floor stop chamfered jowled storey posts with original small arched braces to 2 stop chamfered cross axial binding beams, chamfered 4 centred arched adjacent service doorways at lower end. First floor reverse curved arched braces in walling, some C17 panelling, side purlin roof.
