THORNHAM MAGNA THORNHAM PARK TM 17 SW 3/87 Garden Walls about 100m - north of The Stables
- II
Kitchen garden walls. Late C18 or early C19, probably extended 1837-8 to plans laid out by S. Smirke. Red brick, largely Flemish bond. A large rectangle of about 70m x 80m extended with a second garden of about 30m x 70m with canted angles away from house. Walls are about 3m high with triangulated coping. Central entrance towards house with plain capped piers, smaller section has 3 similar openings and pilaster buttresses. Wall between 2 gardens has lean-to glasshouses and C20 outbuildings and is slightly ramped up to centre.
