II
House. C15 or earlier origin with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with some C15/C16 red brickwork, C18/C19 painted brick facade. Hipped grey slate roof to front range, red plain tiled rear range. 2 large red brick chimney stacks, one off centre left, the other to right. 2 storeys and cellar. 2:1:2 window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes including 2 storey off centre left angled bay. 2 panel 4-light door to left of bay, fanlight over, panelled pilasters, flat canopy on scroll brackets. To right of the bay a 4 panelled door, fanlight over, moulded surround, pilasters, columns with capitals and bases support the entablature, mutule cornice. The original rear range has a crosswing to right which breaks forward in-line with the C18/C19 front range. There is exposed C15/C19 red brick work to right return, much repaired, with a first floor window of 3 chamfered round headed lights under a square head. A brick cellar under this crosswing has small pointed head niches and blocked 4-centred arches. Interior:- The main rooms of the original build have fine moulded bridging joists and many of the moulded ceiling beams are exposed. Front first floor room of crosswing has a cambered tie beam and ceiling with moulded bridging and ceiling joists. Jowled storey posts. There are 2 C17 fully panelled rooms to first floor, one with a coved ceiling, the other with a cambered ceiling with moulded beams. Heavy turned balusters have been re-used at the top of the servants' stairs. Main staircase with stick balusters and wreathed handrail. Pammet brick hall floor. Other features and known ceiling beams now plastered over. Side purlin ridge board roofs, but roof not seen over front of crosswing at time of re-survey. Originally a moated site.
