Gate lodge to Spye Park, the former gatehouse of Brombam House,
C16, moved and remodelled slightly in later C18. Ashlar with
stone slate roof. Two storeys with battlemented parapet, high
plinth and angle buttresses. Large four-centred arch with
hoodmould and carved arms in spandrels. Later inserted round
arch. Flanking C18 Gothick ogee-headed ashlar niches. Fine first
floor 1:3:1-light mullion-and-transom oriel with Tudor-arched heads
to upper lights, moulded cornice and parapet. Deep carved apron
has arms of Henry VIII flanked by finely carved panels. The
moulded base also has fine carving. Bases of 2 finials to oriel
and 2 similar to parapet each side. Centre battlement has carved
griffin head and outer battlement each side a donkey's head. Rear
is similar but slightly simplified, no transom to oriel, no
finials. Fine carving to apron panels and arch spandrels. Sides
are rubble stone with pair of C18 Gothick lancet lights in heavy
projecting surrounds to first floor each side. Ground floor
doors.
