BRADING SZ6087 STATION ROAD 1352-0/7/104 Brading Railway Station Signal Box 14/04/86 GV II
Signal box. 1882 for the Isle of Wight Railway. Red brick with slate roof. Rectangular 2 storey structure. Ground floor in brick with contrasting quoins and window surrounds. Two 4-pane casements with segmental heads. 6-light sliding timber windows above, 4-light on side elevations. Hipped roof with scalloped valancing. External wooden stair. Contains the original Stephens frame. It is a well preserved example of a local designed signal box built by a small railway company which remained independent until taken into the Southern Railway in 1923. Part of the only remaining railway station complex on the Island.
