Details

OVER WHITACRE NUNEATON ROAD SP29SE (East side) Monwode Lea 3/145 Monwode Lea Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse. Late C18. Red brick, Flemish bond, on squared red sandstone plinth with splayed upper edge. Stone dressings, now painted, to quoins and front door and windows. Shallow pitch roof originally of slate, now covered with local blue/black tiles. Wood coving to eaves. Flush end stacks, with rebuilt upper courses. L-plan with modern infill in the angle. Cellar, 2 storeys and attic. Symmetrical 3-bay facade framed by rusticated quoins. Original hung sashes replaced by early C20 casements in original openings. Flat arches of stone with raised keyblocks and stone sills to each. Smaller casements to attic storey and the centre bay. Central doorway in round-headed arch with doorcase of stone painted white, having a broken pediment on plain pilasters. Six raised and fielded panelled door and fanlight with radial glazing bars. The rear range has segmental arches of header brickwork to door and window openings. Interior: Closed string, closed-well staircase with stick balusters. Two inglenook hearths and one parlour hearth with c.1840 marble surround with the mantel carried on console brackets.
