Details
GRANDBOROUGH WOOLSCOTT SP46NE 6/82 Birchen Fold GV II House. C16/early C17, with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Timber framed: cross wing has exposed heavy close studding with braces and plastered infill. Right return side of brick. Remainder roughcast, possibly over brick. Late C20 tile roof; stone ridge stack; old brick external stack in angle to rear. T-plan, with cross wing on right. 2 storeys and attic. Main front to garden is a 3-window range. 3-light windows. Cross wing has C20 canted bay. Old casement with glazing bars above. Attic has small 2-light leaded casement. Left range has wood and iron casements with horizontal glazing bars. Right range has small C20 windows. Right return side has C20 door and side lights. Gables have shaped bargeboards. Rear is similar, Cross wing has brick plinth. Interior: room has moulded ceiling beam and open fireplace with cambered moulded bressumer. Another room has ogee stop-chamfered beam. Late C16/early C17 painted stone fireplace has moulded straight-headed Tudor arch with sunk spandrels. Initials to left and right. Frieze of jewel work, and moulded cornice.
