SOUTHAM ABBEY LANE SP4161 (East side) 13/55 Nos.47 and 49 07/01/52 (Formerly listed as The Rookery)

House, now 2 cottages. C14/C15 origins, with C16 and C17 additions. Small cruck-framed range to rear, with C16 timber-framed cross wing extending forward. Main range of squared coursed lias ground floor with timber-framed first floor. C20-tile roof with rendered ridge and end stacks. L-shaped plan. 2-storey, 4-window range of C19 and C20 two- and three-light casements to front. C20 door to centre-left and centre-right within C20 timber porches. To rear of No.47 a single-unit range with one pair of full crucks. Large framed rear wall with lath and plaster infill. C16 front range of No.47 is large framed, heavily jettied to front gable. Interior: pair of full crucks visible in No.47, the ridge recently gone and a first floor recently inserted. Large spine beam and rafters in C16 range, with large open fireplace with chamfered timber bressumer. In main range (No.49 and part of No.47) stop-chamfered spine beams and joists, with some earlier joists. Open fireplace with carved bressumer, probably re-used. Queen-post roof of 3.5 bays with original ridge, purlins and braces, the rafters replaced C20.
