Details
EASTERTON WHITE STREET SU 05 SW (south side) 6/99 No 14 (Fairfield Farmhouse) 19.3.62 II Farmhouse. C16-C17. Greensand rubble with upper level in close set timber framing, with corner braces, shingled roof. Two storeys and basement, 3 bays, with part extra bay both ends, and 3 bay timber framed structure partly attached to rear left, now and perhaps originally an added kitchen-service wing. Entrance to central bay against flanking dog leg stair, with through hall and parlour to right, first kitchen to left. Door and early C19 six- panelled door with heavy moulded frame raised over 2 short flights of steps. Flanking bays probably originally gabled to front, but removed when structure raised from single storey and attic to 2 full storeys in late C17-C18. Three-light leaded timber casement windows to ground floor with timber chamfered lintels in stonework. Narrower 3-light windows. Basement has two C16 or early C17 chamfered timber windows rebated for leading, and diamond timber vertical bars. Stair also has 3-light C17 window set in framework and a later casement window. Three original similar windows to gable end. Rear building fully framed with corner braces, tension braces and gable stack. Framing 3 panels high. Roof thatched and half hipped and ends. Interior: Main parlour has two parallel longitudinal beams with bar stops to deep chamfers, the stop cut away. Good late C17 stair with turned vase balusters and heavy handrail. Stone fireplace with timber lintel in left room.
