Details
THE STREET 1. 5377 (North Side) Lawshall Lawshall Hall TL 85 SE 4/303 10.1.53. II*
2. A mid C16 red brick house with some blue brick diapering, built on a T shaped plan, with the older wing extending north-west. The house is said to have been part of an old monastery and has massive brick walls said to be 6 ft thick in places. The north-west end of the front wing there is part of the original wall (the gable is modern), with 2 small stone framed windows and a Tudor arched doorway with a square hood mould. The house is a great deal altered and was refronted on the south-west front in the C19 with 3 window range of double-hung sashes. The north-east wing has some original 3-light mullioned and transomed windows (brick), partly blocked. Roof tiled. (C20). The house is dated 1557 with the arms of the Drury's. Queen Elizabeth I is said to have stayed here in 1578.
