TM 0434 STRATFORD ST MARY UPPER STREET (north side) 5/36 - Poynings GV II House. Probably early C17 with single bay later addition at left and extension to rear. Timber-framed, rendered. Plain tile roof, red brick stack. One storey and attic, 3 bays. Probably originally 2-cell central lobby entry plan. Three C20 casements and small oculus against stack lighting present staircase. 2 flat dormers with C20 casements. Swept roof, off-centre stack. C20 porch to left gable end. Single-storey rear wing extension under catslide roof. Interior: studded walls with thin down braces. Wall plate with face-halved scarf. Cham- fered cambered tie beams and clasped purlin roof. Rebuilt inglenook with cham- fered bressumer. Chamfered beams with tongue stops. 1st floor: partition wall between centre and left end room was originally an outside wall and retains panels of pargetting.
