Details
POLSTEAD POLSTEAD PARK 1. 5377 Polstead Hall TL 9838 62/901 23.1.58 II* 2. Approached by a drive from Water Lane. A large white brick building with a balustraded parapet and a cornice. It stands in a former deer park close to the Church of St Mary. In the late C18 the original C16 house was extensively rebuilt or remodelled and improvements were made in 1818-19 by W Pilkington (Colvin). There are older buildings at the rear. Roof slate, hipped, with 3 dormers behind the parapet. Two storeys and attics. The south-east front has outer 2 storeyed splayed bays each with 3 window range and 3 window range between them. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. A central rusticated perch projects on the front with Tuscan columns in antis. The north-west front has 12 window range. The interior has a C16 core and there are C16 wall paintings.
