Hawkins Farmhouse

II
A timber-framed and plastered building refronted in the late C18 or
early C19 in gault brick. The house was built in 3 sections. The centre
part is of medieval origin and was roofed at right angles to the present
front. At the south end there is an addition built adjoining the original
house but separated structurally. Probably of C16 origin. At the north
end there is a later addition, probably of the C17. The present building
is 2 storeyed with 3 window range on the front of double-hung sashes
with glazing bars (five panes wide). Roof tiled, with 2 ridge chimney
stacks. The interior has exposed heavy closely spaced freeing, ceiling
beams and joists and a number of original window openings with shutter
grooves.
