BILDESTON
HIGH STREET (east side)
Numbers 138 and 140

GV
II

A timber-framed and plastered building with jettied cross wings on exposed
joists at the north and south ends, probably originally a medieval hall
house, but considerably altered. The north cross wing is also jettied
on exposed joists on the north side. The south cross wing has exposed
timber-framing on the upper storey, and there is an addition on the
south end, also jettied with exposed timber-framing on the upper storey.
The centre block and the ground storey of each cross wing is faced in
brick (painted) and the north cross wing has the remains of a large corner
post with moulded capital. Roof tiled, with a C16-C17 internal chimney
stack to the south wing, with 2 octagonal shafts. There is also a jettied
wing at the rear. The interior has an open truss with carved spandrels
and crown post.
