Hotel, early C19, with 2-stage C16 core. 2 storeys and attics, 5 windows. Red
brick with parapet-gables; the left-hand section has timber-framing behind.
Plaintiled roofs with crested ridge tiles, flat-headed dormers and chimneys of
gault brick. At 1st floor, C19 sash windows with flat arches of gauged brick
and small-pane sashes. At ground floor, 3 C19 bays, splayed, with flat roofs;
moulded cornices, wrought iron cresting and small-pane sashes. The main
entrance is built into the segmental arched C19 carriage entrance; C20 4-
panelled door set in panelled infilling. Further C20 entrance doorway to left
with 6-panelled door, pilasters and canopy. The lounge to left forms an early
C16 core of 2 cells with exposed framing. The dining room forms a late C16
rear extension of 2 storeys behind. Two wings were added to rear in early C19;
one had stabling below and a jettied timber-framed club-room over, the other of
painted gault brick with flint to rear. Both wings were altered C20.
