Details

BIDDULPH C.P. OVERTON ROAD SJ 86 SE 3/37 Higher Overton Farmhouse - GV II

Farmhouse. C18 with remnants of earlier work and mid-C19 alterations and additions. Coursed and squared rubble, parts in ashlar; blue machine tile roof; verge parapets; brick ridge stacks on either side of centre axis. 'T'-shaped plan formed by later additions to rear. 3-storey, 3-window front; block mullioned casements, except ground floor to left and right; all with now-fitting shutters (October 1984); 2 widely- spaced ranges of windows flanking roughly central entrance, 2 lights to first and second floors (plus one to second floor), 3 lights to ground floor; C20 windows to left and right of ground floor; C20 gabled single-storey porch and entrance; single-storey addition to left. Three building phases are evident to frontage: large blocks to If storeys on left, corollating in construction detail with the barn, dated 1740 (q.v.), and taken up to centre line of porch with smaller blocks to right; larger blocks to later upper storey. As the detail of fenestration is reasonably coherent, the time-span of phases may have been short.
