LMS bonded stores and grain warehouse No 4. Late C19. Red brick with slate roof. 4 storeys, long 18-window range flanking the former Midland Railway line. Cast iron casements under segmental brick heads; C 20 square-headed door in centre under flat canopy. Roof has 10 hipped ridges with overhanging eaves. Front elevation: enclosed siding to right; ground floor altered with loading bay and C20 office extension to left of centre. 3 windows to left of C20 weatherboarded hoist rising to ridge level and with hipped roof. Another 3 windows to right beyond which is a C20 brick lift shaft; one window to right. The elevation facing the railway bears painted inscription 'Midland Railway/Bonded Stores and Grain Warehouse No 4. Other painted inscriptions refer to the successor LMS Railway. The grain warehouse is a significant relic of Burton's industrial history, illustrating the close connection between the brewing industry and the railway which served for transporting bulky raw materials.
