Bridge at SJ 851384 Beech
II
Road bridge. Mid to late C18, with C20 partial rebuilding. Massive coursed squared sandstone, with red brick arch linings. Single arch overbridge carries A519 road above minor road within Beech Dale, which runs at an acute angle to the main road. Bridge with stilted semi-circular arch, defined by plain voussoirs, set within splayed abutments which terminate at plain pilasters. Arch head defined by plain flat band course which extends around the pilasters and along flanking walls adjoining the bridge. Above the band course, plain parapet walls with substantial flat copings. East parapet wall extends south-westwards beyond abutment to define road curve. West parapet has been substantially rebuilt in C20 masonry. Arch lining of narrow C18 red brick, the courses running parallel to the road being bridged. Flanking retaining walls set back on either side of the archways.
