History
North Walsham is a medieval market town that grew wealthy from the trade of wool and cloth. The town was largely rebuilt following a fire in 1600 but remained a significant market centre into the Industrial Revolution.
The building at Number 2 Yarmouth Road is likely C18 or early C19 in origin. In the mid C19, the building was in use as a house with a yard and garden. It was depicted on the Tithe Map of 1842 as a large building with an open area to the south and west of the house. By 1906, the yard had largely been built over. In the late 1970s and 1980s, the building was converted from domestic use to shops, offices and self-contained flats at first floor level. Internal works in 2013 included the removal of a chimney stack to create an office space within the building.
