Details
POLEBROOK DUKES STREET TL0687 (West side) 19/108 The Old Dukes Head GV II
Public house now house. Dated 1595. Regular coursed limestone with thatch roof. Originally probably 3-unit plan. Single storey with attic. 4-window range. Canted bay window with stone base to far left. Horizontal sliding sash, with glazing bars, to left and C19 and C20 casements to right, all under wood lintels. 2 C19 casements under eyebrow dormers. Central C20 door under wood lintel. Remains of chamfered plinth. Gabled roof to left and hipped roof to right. Brick stacks at ridge. Interior: room to right of entrance has ceiling beams with roundel decoration and elaborate ogee and bar stops with fleur-de-lis. 2 open fireplaces, one has vine decoration and date 1.S/.1595 on bressumer. Timber-framed partition between centre and south rooms. Roof structure has clasped purlins. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p135)
