6/64 Gates, gatepiers and attached 23/05/67 screens approx. 600m. SE of S front of Drayton House (Formerly listed as screen, SE avenue to Drayton House)

GV I

Gates, gatepiers and screens. Early C18 for the Duchess of Norfolk, Limestone ashlar gatepiers with wrought iron gates and screens. Gatepiers are rusticated with attached columns, and moulded cornices, surmounted by closed lead urns. Gates with pyramid scroll tops. Attached railings with scroll panelled standards and scroll cresting. Located on main north/south axis of south front of Drayton House (q.v.). (Gardens included in HBMCE Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I. Cornforth, J., Country Life, 20th May, 1965, p.1216; Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.189; Jackson-Stops G, Drayton House, 1978).
