House. Late C17. Enlarged in the 1770's and remodelled in the early C19 in Tudor style. Date 1777 inscribed on left side. Rendered front, limestone ashlar sides and rear, tile roof, rendered stacks. L-plan. The north wing probably incorporating the main rooms of the C17 house with service wing to the south east. North front, 2 storeys and attic, 4 bays. Central doorway has eared stone architrave, moulded entablature with keyblock and C20 half glazed door. Porch with cast iron columns and canopy. Double sash windows with rendered frames on either side. Sash windows with side lights and plain rendered frames in outer bays. Sash windows with square hoods on the first floor. Outer bays have gables with finials. Centre bays have gabled half dormers with sash windows. Left side, 3 bays, has Victorian gabled stone porch with 4 centred arch in left bay. Sash windows to right and on the first floor. 1777/A.W. inscribed below central window on the first floor. Lower wing to felt, late C17, altered C18. storeys and attic, 2 bays. Entrance in left bay with moulded stone surround. 6-pane sash window in plain stone frame to right. 2-light windows with moulded stone frames and flat stone mullions on the first floor. Gabled attic half dormers, probably altered C19. Coped gable end to left with stone stack. Lower adjoining wing, C17, remodelled and partly rebuilt in brick C19, has 2-light window with flat stone mullion at rear. Interior: Drawing room has early C18 carved wood fireplace, the opening flanked by volutes with cherub's heads in profile. Overmantel with swags of flowers and pediment framing portrait of Susanna Jennens, owner of the house in the early C18. Carved doorcase with frieze of laurel leaves. In ground floor room is a fireplace with an early C17 carved overmantel with blind arcading and caryatids, the opening surrounded by Delft tiles. Staircase c.1700, altered C18, has twisted balusters, two to a tread. The fireplaces and doorcases in the Drawing Room are said to have been brought from Greatworth Manor, Northamptonshire in the 1770's then in progress of demolition. Thomas Hiccocke became Lord of the Manor c.1662, his son William, probably built Weston hall, c.1680-90. In the C19 it passed by marriage to the Sitwell family and is frequently mentioned in their writings.
