UPPER HEYFORD SP65NE 4/190 Dovecote Farmhouse and attached granary

GV II

Farmhouse. C17 altered mid C18 and late C19. Coursed squared ironstone, slate roof, brick end stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic. 4-window range. Main front faces garden and has door in re-entrant angle with moulded Tudor-arched stone surround with cut spandrels. Main range to left has 2-light casement windows to ground and 1st floors with moulded stone sills and flat-arched heads: 1-light window above door with similar sill and head. Sun fire insurance plaque above middle 1st floor window. Projecting wing has 3-light casement windows to ground and 1st floors replacing pairs of windows similar to those of main range. 1-light ground floor window to right with stone sill and flat-arched head. Gable end of this wing has pair of 1-light attic windows with moulded stone surrounds and hood moulds. Chamfered plinths, quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Attached granary to right of projecting wing is of coursed limestone rubble with corrugated asbestos roof. Stone-coped gable with kneelers to far right end, and 9 stone steps leading to plank loft door with chamfered wood surround and wood lintel. Interior of house has diamond stop-chamfered spine beams and open fireplace with diamond-stop-chamfered cambered bressumer. Another open fireplace with chamfered stone jambs.
